sean808080's ohmbase: material madness

  • queerskinhead_uk · 1 year ago
My siblings do the same with their kids, it's silly as they are also quick to tell me that all kids need is` love! Xmas is a great example; they get themselves into terrible debt each year that they never really recover from just to buy crap that gets broken by end of January.

I think you have drawn the right conclusions here. :)

As a parent, materialism was tough for me to get over. I stopped over compensating for whatever was bothering me about myself a loong time ago. Now I try my best to give them my time when I feel shitty about my parenting skills.

This is a problem of our society . We live in the materialism . Don' t you think ?
This is true in Europe for about 50 years .
    I regret .
    In friendship , Sean .

I don't think that they compare your parenting to the clothes the kids are wearing. I think they do this to reflect their parenting. Everyone is doing the best that they can do. If they send their kid home with a new favorite shirt or some shoes they feel like the kid will think of them in a kinder light. Of course, that is just me, pollyanna. Parents, all of us, are doing the best we can do and we fall down quite a bit in that effort. Happy Hump Day, Sean. You get better looking all the time.

Good post. I agree 100%. And it's not just with kids in foster care. Where I see a lot of it is in families where the parents are so busy working (sometimes by choice . . . they don't "need" the money, but they like the status), they feel guilty about not spending time with their kids, so they spend money on material goods (can you tell I'm a teacher?). Consumer debt is a huge issue in the US today.
