Xmas is a great example; they get themselves into terrible debt each year that they never really recover from just to buy crap that gets broken by end of January.

I think you have drawn the right conclusions here. :)

Re: material madness

As a parent, materialism was tough for me to get over. I stopped over compensating for whatever was bothering me about myself a loong time ago. Now I try my best to give them my time when I feel shitty about my parenting skills.

Re: material madness

This is a problem of our society . We live in the materialism . Don' t you think ?
This is true in Europe for about 50 years .
I regret .
In friendship , Sean .
Michel

Re: material madness

I don't think that they compare your parenting to the clothes the kids are wearing. I think they do this to reflect their parenting. Everyone is doing the best that they can do. If they send their kid home with a new favorite shirt or some shoes they feel like the kid will think of them in a kinder light. Of course, that is just me, pollyanna. Parents, all of us, are doing the best we can do and we fall down quite a bit in that effort. Happy Hump Day, Sean. You get better looking all the time.
